Education
Available Programs
Humane education involves teaching the principles of goodwill, kindness, justice and compassion towards all life. It can be used as a tool to help children understand the pet-people relationship. Children have a kinship and understanding with animals that encourages trust and companionship. Humane education transfers these values to our relationships with humans. Studies have shown that humane education later generalizes into humane attitudes toward people.
The objective of the Jacksonville Humane Society’s Humane Education Program is to promote Humane Education to the entire community and to nurture the bond between people and their pets.
The curriculum is based on age and grade and can be tailored to fit your educational needs, from PreK through High School. All educational visits include a special appearance from “Noodle the dog” for the students to interact with!

The educational tour includes a presentation (see topics above) and a tour of the puppy and kitten area. A dog or cat will be available to the class or group. All tours must have an appointment.
You may schedule a speaker to visit your classroom, school, or visit our facility at 8464 Beach Boulevard. A JHS staff member or volunteer is available to visit your scout troops, youth groups and other youth oriented and adult oriented groups as well.
The Humane Education Program is free of charge. We always accept donations and many classes and groups will donate items or make a contribution to the Jacksonville Humane Society to coincide with their visit.
We are scheduling educational activities for 2008. Email us at education@jaxhumane.org.
