Administrative Support

We need dedicated and committed volunteers to assist with: data entry, phone reception and filing. Great for folks who want to help the shelter, but don’t want to participate in direct animal contact. Basic office skills required.

Customer Service

Assist our Adoption Counselors by greeting customers, directing them to animal adoption areas, and answering basic questions. Your volunteer commitment helps our Customer Service Team place more pets in loving lifetime homes! Volunteers are also needed to help monitor our Dog Kennel, Cattery, Cat Cabana and Puppy Room.

Dog Handling

Exercise, train, and play with our adoptable pooches to help ensure their physical and mental well-being.

Foster Parent

Everyday, JHS Volunteer Foster Parents literally save lives. Rehabilitate sick, injured, orphaned, or unsocialized animals in your home until they are ready for adoption. We provide you with medication, veterinary care and pet supplies (if necessary).

Kitty Cuddling

Learn how to “talk cat” to keep our adoptable kitties as comfortable as possible during their stay with us. Volunteer responsibilities include socializing, kennel enrichment, and play.

Mobile Adoptions Assitant

Help our pets find loving, lifetime homes at various off-site mobile adoption venues all around Jacksonville,such as PetsMart and Pet Supermarket. We also participate in several high-profile mobile adoptions each year, such as The North Shore Animal League America’s “Tour For Life”. Volunteers will be expected to be able to tend to the pets’ and public’s needs. Qualified applicants must have great customer service and animal handling skills.

Pet Assisted Therapy

Studies have shown that animal companionship can provide human health benefits. Take your well-behaved pet to visit assisted/nursing care facilities, or children’s homes to brighten someone’s day.

* Volunteer and pet must first be registered either through Delta Society Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs Inc.

Special Events Volunteer

Help at off-site fundraisers and events throughout the year on an “as-needed” basis, typically on evenings or weekends. Energetic and fun-loving pet lovers need apply!

Thrift Store

Help our Thrift Store staff sort, organize and display donations so we can raise much-needed funds for our animals! Volunteers are also needed to assist shoppers…strong Customer Service skills are required.
