JHS Youth Volunteer Program

The youth volunteer program gives teens between the ages of 16-18 who are still enrolled in a high school program the opportunity to complete community service hours for school or scholarship requirements.

We are limited in the number of youth volunteers that we take at one time and are only able to bring on new youth volunteers in the Summer, Fall, and Spring at the start of each semester.

We are looking for youth who demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence
  • An ability to commit to our program:
    • Youth volunteers must commit to volunteer at least once a week for at least 12 weeks.
    • Volunteers must commit to volunteer on the same day and time each week.
    • Volunteers who cannot commit to this will not be considered.
  • A willingness to work with both cats and dogs
  • Being comfortable talking to members of the public

Youth volunteers will only be considered for animal handling positions if they successfully complete the first 4 shifts they are scheduled out of the 12 that are required by the Youth Volunteer Program, though these placements are not guaranteed. There is also a $30 program fee that is required of all volunteers.

How do I get started?

To become a youth volunteer, the first step is to attend a Youth Volunteer Info Session. Youth Volunteer Info Sessions are held three times per year in January, May, and August.

Upcoming Youth Volunteer Info Sessions:

Our August 2021 info sessions are FULL. Please check back in December for registration info for our January 2022 info sessions.
