Do you know a middle or high school student who needs to earn volunteer hours? Or maybe one who’s just passionate about helping pets?


Middle school students in grades 6-8 are invited to join us for a Middle School Service Day on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 11am to 3pm. REGISTER NOW


High school students in grades 9-12 are invited to join us for a High School Service Day on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 11am to 3pm. REGISTER NOW

Participants will complete several service projects benefiting JHS and learn about animal sheltering, what dogs and cats go through while living in a shelter environment, and how we can help make pawsitive connections with animals and the people who care for them.

All participants will be awarded 3 community service hours at the end of the day and a pizza lunch will be provided! A $35 donation is required to register.

Campers will learn all about animal behavior and sheltering, make fun crafts and treats for the pets, help promote pets for adoption, and so much more!

JHS camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at our Adoption and Education Center located at 8464 Beach Blvd. Extended care is available for an additional fee.

BISSELL Pet Foundation is hosting an emergency Empty the Shelters adoption event August 16- 22 in an effort to help shelters across the country in crisis. The Empty the Shelters: Big Dog & Cat Crisis emergency event is dedicated to ensuring large dogs (40 lbs. or more), adult cats (six months or older), and senior dogs (seven years or older) get adopted into loving homes. During this nationwide event, BISSELL Pet Foundation will waive all adoption fees.

Join JHS for our annual Kitten Café on August 8th, 2021 featuring free* adoptions!

Event Information

The same free* adoption special will also be honored at both shelters: Animal Care & Protective Services and the Jacksonville Humane Society during normal business hours.

*A $20 city license fee may apply at the time of adoption as required by law for Duval County residents. More information is available here.

Dogs, cats, and kittens will be available at all locations. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. If either organization has small dogs or puppies available, they will bring them to PetSmart. However, they are usually the first pets adopted so we encourage you to come early.

All customers are expected to abide by COVID-19 regulations at each location that are posted at entry.

JHS is offering $20 pet adoptions this Memorial Day Weekend. If you are looking for a fun event in honor of Memorial Day, JHS is a great place to find a new family member!

Adoption fees will be reduced to $20 from Saturday, May 29th through Monday, May 31 at our location – 8464 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville, FL.

Hours are as follows:

Saturday – Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Calling all Jacksonville parents! Do you have a child in grades 2-8 who is passionate about pets?

Registration is now open for our Pawsident’s Day Camp in February and Spring Break Camp in March!

Campers will study animal behavior, spend time interacting with dogs and cats, help socialize kittens, learn how to help pets at home and in the community, make enrichment items for our four-legged friends, and so much more.

Silent Night is our favorite holiday tradition here at JHS; make it one of yours this year and give a pet a temporary home for the holidays!

2020 Silent Night Information

How does it work?

– Stop by the Jacksonville Humane Society or Animal Care and Protective Services between December 17-24, 2020 and choose a pet to take home for a temporary foster for the holidays. Our staff will help you find the right fit for your home. (If possible, please bring a new or gently used collar and leash with you at the time of pick-up. If you plan to take a cat home, you can bring a new or gently used carrier.)
– Your furry guest will stay with you until December 26, 2020, so that they can enjoy the holidays in a home.
– Return your pet on December 26 – or adopt!

Do you live in a home without any pets or children? 

Some of our shelter pets prefer a home without other animals or children. If you can provide a home such as this to a shelter pet during the holidays, we’d love your support! If you do not have any animals or kiddos currently living in your home and are interested in fostering, please click here. If you have other pets at home, you are still welcome to participate in Silent Night. This information is simply to help us find a good fit for our pets who have a distinct need.

Is there a cost?

– No – it doesn’t cost anything to participate in Silent Night.

Will you provide food and other supplies? 

– Yes, JHS will supply a bag of dog/cat food and cat litter while supplies last. Please try to bring your own leash/collar/carrier.

Are any other shelters participating?

– Yes! Our friends at Animal Care & Protective Services are participating in Silent Night this year. You can stop by their facility between December 17-24 and take home a Silent Night pet.
