More than 1,000 people participate in JHS’s inaugural Pet Walk & Festival

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There is still time to participate in the first annual Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival. More than 1,000 people and their pets took part in the Jacksonville Humane Society’s (JHS) fundraiser on Feb. 28, but donors can still support JHS through online donations on the event’s Web site.

“We are so thankful to the people of Jacksonville who solicited sponsorships and walked in our inaugural Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival,” said Leona Sheddan, executive director of JHS. “Thanks to our supporters, we raised a significant amount of money through this event, but we are just shy of our goal and hope to raise $10,000 more to help pay for spays and neuters, medicine and shelter for the animals in our care.”

The Trail of Tails walk started and ended at Friendship Fountain Park in downtown Jacksonville. After the 1 1/2-mile walk, participants enjoyed live music, refreshments and a performance by the Purina Incredible Dog Team, a group of canines that presented a high-energy performance set to music. More than 40 vendors sold everything from clothes for dogs and obedience training classes to pet treats and portraits.

“We had a great time at Trail of Tails walking on the Riverwalk and through Treaty Oak Park,” said Jessi Bruton, a participant. “As a team, my co-workers and I raised more than $600 for JHS. It was great to get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful weather, all while helping a worthy organization.”
