Teen walks 20 miles to raise more than $700 for the Jacksonville Humane Society

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sandalwood High School freshman Ian Zordan, 15, has walked 20 miles to raise $722 for the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS).

“More than 100 people pledged money for me to walk for the animals,” said Zordan. “I walked five miles at a time on four different occasions in November on Beach and Atlantic Boulevards. My goal was to raise more money as a student at Sandalwood High School than I did when I was attending Fletcher Middle School.”

In spring 2008, Zordan raised $511 for JHS as a student at Fletcher Middle School.

“I think every person can make a difference in the world. I raised a lot of money earlier in the year for JHS, and I knew I could do it again,” said Zordan. “The money goes to buy things to help the animals like toys, towels and other supplies. I hope I can inspire people to walk to raise more money for JHS at the organization’s Trail of Tails Pet Walk and Festival in February.”

JHS is hosting the first-ever Trail of Tails Pet Walk and Festival on Feb. 28. Walkers can register at www.jaxhumane.org prior to the walk or at 8 a.m. on walk day. The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. and will start and end at Friendship Fountain Park. Entrance is $30 per person or $25 per person for people walking as a team. Animals walk with their owners for free. “Ian’s efforts for JHS demonstrate that every member of our community can help non-profit organizations,” said Leona Sheddan, executive director of JHS. “He is an inspiration to all of us.”
