Something extraordinary happened this November at the Jacksonville Humane Society, and we have YOU to thank. 💚
Last Tuesday, we welcomed the 10,000th pet of 2025 into our care. Each dog, cat, puppy, and kitten is an individual with their own unique story, made possible by you.
10,000 animals so far this year is not a goal that we set out to accomplish. Numbers rising in an animal shelter is not something you celebrate. In fact, the last time we saw this many animals was in 2005, before we became a no-kill shelter.
But when we realized it would happen, we were not afraid. We weren’t worried or scared.
Because we knew we had you.
There’s a lot of history in the past twenty years – a devastating fire, an economic crash, a brand-new building, and a global pandemic. In that time, Jacksonville even became one of the first cities in the nation to achieve no-kill status! Through it all, JHS never wavered from our lifesaving mission, and it’s all thanks to you.
Today, we are thankful for the hard work of every adopter, volunteer, foster, donor, partner, supporter, and friend who made this possible.
Twenty years ago, it wasn’t possible for JHS to take in 10,000 animals and be a no-kill shelter. Today, we can – and we did. You made that possible, Jacksonville. We are here for you and because of you.
Have you adopted one of the 10,000 this year? Fostered, walked, cuddled, or read a story to one? Did you take one on a dog day out? Did you send one a loving gift? Each one has their own story, and we’d love your help telling them.
We want to hear from you in the comments! Please share your stories with us to inspire more acts of kindness. Let’s keep the momentum going through the holidays. Let’s connect for good!
And thank you, Jacksonville. 💚 On behalf of the animals – thank you.
