Community Partnerships
Animal Care & Protective Services: JHS transfers pets from ACPS on a weekly basis in an effort to maintain our city’s no-kill status. We also frequently collaborate to host joint adoption events and animal control officers visit JHS’s Summer Camp program each year.
The Arc of Jacksonville: JHS provides volunteer opportunities to adult residents of the Arc as well as high school students participating in Arc programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida: JHS hosts an annual service day for brother/sister pairs.
Brooks Rehabilitation Aphasia Center: Members of the Aphasia Center regularly visit JHS to read to the animals as a form of language therapy.
Catholic Charities Jacksonville: JHS regularly partners with Catholic Charities to provide free veterinary outreach services to the community.
Catty Shack: Representatives of Catty Shack have visited the JHS summer camp to share information on tigers vs. domestic cats.
Department of Corrections: JHS offers a community service program where adults can satisfy court-mandated community service hours.
Duval County Public Schools: JHS offers veterinary medicine and other internship opportunities to high school students in Duval County.
employU: JHS serves as an employU business partner, offering job skills training for for people with disabilities and other underserved populations.
First Coast No More Homeless Pets: FCNMHP is a JHS Kitten Krusader partner and is also a member of the Northeast Florida No-Kill Coalition.
Five Star Veterans Center: JHS offers volunteer opportunities to veterans living at Five Star Veterans Center through our Paws & Stripes volunteer program.
Florida Leaders in Lifesaving: FLIL is a JHS initiative dedicated to uniting animal welfare organizations in Florida in a statewide mission to save the lives of dogs and cats in shelters.
Girl Scout & Boy Scout Troops: JHS hosts badge events for Brownies and offers opportunities for Eagle Scout projects.
Goodwill of North Florida: JHS serves as an internship site for Goodwill’s Mayor’s Youth at Work Partnership and also offers service opportunities to the Mayor’s Young Leaders Advisory Council.
Jacksonville School for Autism: Groups of students and teachers from the Jacksonville School for Autism volunteer at JHS weekly.
Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens: Zoo educators visit JHS’s Summer Camp program each summer to talk about the differences between wolves/coyotes and domestic dogs.
Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation: The Furyk Foundation generously provides JHS camp and field trip scholarships, benefiting thousands of children in our community, including those from partnering agencies like the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund.
JSO: Officers from JSO’s K-9 unit visit JHS’s Summer Camp program each year during Careers with Pets Week.
Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida: JHS partners with Lutheran Social Services to offer a pet food bank and other pet help resources to the community.
MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation: JHS regularly visits MWYF through our educational outreach program for kids.
North Florida School of Special Education: JHS provides weekly volunteer opportunities for students and the NFSSE’s Berry Good Farms division often participates in JHS events by donating handmade dog biscuits.
Partnership for Child Health: In collaboration with the Partnership for Child Health, JHS is proud to offer Humane Heroes, a humane education-themed juvenile diversion program.
Police Athletic League of Jacksonville: JHS regularly visits JaxPAL sites after school through our educational outreach program for kids.
Sanctuary on 8th Street: JHS regularly visits the Sanctuary through our educational outreach program for kids.
Sulzbacher Village: JHS regularly visits Sulzbacher Village through our educational outreach program for kids.
University of Florida: JHS provides externships for students studying veterinary science from UF Veterinary School.
University of North Florida: JHS provides jobs to students in the federal work-study program at UNF and internships to students in the Communications Department.
