Pet adoptions will take center stage March 28–29 as the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) partners with PetSmart Charities® to participate in National Adoption Week. During the event, adoptable dogs and cats from JHS will be available to meet at a local PetSmart store, giving community members a convenient way to connect with pets looking for homes.
National Adoption Week is a nationwide initiative led by PetSmart Charities that helps animal shelters and rescues showcase adoptable pets. By bringing animals into PetSmart stores, the event increases visibility for shelter pets and helps more people learn about adoption opportunities in their community.
The Jacksonville Humane Society welcomes animals through its doors every day and works to connect them with adopters.
Adopting a pet can also provide benefits for people and families. Research shows that caring for pets can support cognitive, physical, and emotional wellness. Pet ownership may encourage regular activity, help reduce stress, and provide companionship.
For families with children, sharing responsibility for a pet can also help teach important values such as patience, compassion, and accountability. These experiences can help children develop empathy while learning how to care for another living being.
