Read & Share Your Love

JHS is partnering with Petco Love for the nation’s largest shelter pet reading event on April 23rd to encourage young animal lovers to “Read & Share Your Love” with the dogs and cats at JHS.

Families with children are invited to come to JHS between 10am – 12pm on Saturday, April 23rd, to spend time reading out loud to our pets. Reading out loud is a wonderful form of enrichment for animals in shelters – it lowers their stress levels, helps them feel more calm in their kennels, and also helps them feel more comfortable around people.

Be sure to bring a book with you! If you forget, you can borrow books from JHS’s Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free Petco Love T-shirt while supplies last (youth sizes available only) and be entered in a drawing to a win a copy of What Will I Do With My Love Today?, a new children’s picture book about pet adoption by Tony and Emmy award winning actress and performer Kristin Chenoweth.

After spending time reading to our animals, children will also be able to “Share Their Love” by crafting some dog and cat toys to bring home to their pets or donate to the pets at JHS.
