This August, the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is joining hundreds of animal shelters and rescue organizations across the country in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign, a nationwide effort to inspire more people to adopt and help more homeless pets find loving families.
Running from August through October, the three-month campaign highlights the lifesaving impact that adoption can have, not only for the pet going home, but for every animal waiting for their chance. Throughout the campaign, JHS will host a variety of adoption promotions and special events to encourage the community to open their hearts and homes to pets in need.
The first event to kick off this nationwide initiative in Jacksonville will be held August 8-9, at the Jacksonville Humane Society, where adoption fees for all dogs and cats will be waived!*
Animal shelters across the country continue to face high intake numbers, with nearly six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2025. Every adoption creates space, time, and resources for another animal to receive the care they need. Even those who aren’t ready to adopt can make a meaningful difference by fostering, helping shelters care for more pets until permanent homes are found.
The Rescue Effect is the ASPCA’s national adoption campaign dedicated to helping shelters increase adoptions while engaging communities across the country. This year, the ASPCA is once again providing $2 million in grants to participating shelters and rescue organizations to help cover adoption fees and support operations, making it even easier for more pets to find homes.
Whether you’re looking for a playful puppy, a laid-back senior dog, an adventurous kitten, or a cuddly cat, JHS has pets of all ages, sizes, and personalities waiting to meet their new families.
Stay tuned throughout August, September, and October for upcoming adoption events and special promotions. To view available pets, learn more about adoption, or see what’s coming up, visit jaxhumane.org.
Together, our community can create the Rescue Effect, one adoption at a time.
*A county licensing fee may apply. A cat carrier or dog leash is required at the time of adoption!
