Meet Blue.

This isn’t what you normally see from us, but we felt this was too important not to share. Please know that these images might be difficult to see, but we want to honor this precious pup’s fighting spirit.

Meet Blue. 💙

Blue

Blue was found by a kind and caring citizen and brought to JHS on August 28, 2024. As you can see, she is very malnourished and underweight. We think that she is 2 years old, and only weighs 17 pounds.

Since coming through our doors, things have been touch and go with Blue, but our veterinary team is doing all that they can to save her life. Over the past week, Blue has slowly been gaining strength – she’s taken her first few steps and is eating lots of nutritious food. Her big appetite is a good sign, and she has begun to wag her tail enthusiastically when she sees her caretakers. While it is too soon to know if she is going to make it, she deserves a fighting chance. No matter the outcome, we are committed to sharing Blue’s journey with you.

For Blue, each little milestone is significant. She is not out of the woods yet, and she is going to need intensive medical treatment to continue her fight. Your loving support makes it possible for JHS to be here when dogs like Blue need us.

You can help support Blue’s fight and send a loving donation to pets in need at jaxhumane.org/donate

PS – If you are struggling to provide food or care for your pets, we want you to reach out so we can connect you with options. We are here to provide non-judgmental support for both ends of the leash. Learn more about our Pet Help resources here.

9/5 Update: Check out Blue’s wishlist! Any items that Blue does not use will be shared with her friends who are also in the hospital unit at JHS.

9/8 Update: Blue had a low fever this weekend and wasn’t interested in her food. After a series of tests and exams, our veterinary team scrubbed in for emergency surgery. They found and removed plastic remnants from Blue’s stomach. Blue is now resting and recovering from her surgery. Her will remains strong and we remain hopeful. Your support keeps us – and most importantly, Blue – going. YOU made these life-saving procedures possible.

9/11 Update: Blue has gained four pounds since she arrived! She is recovering from her surgery very well but is showing signs of kennel cough, which is not uncommon for dogs in her condition. We are continuing with daily monitoring of her health and making sure she has everything she needs to fully recover. We are so thankful for all the donations, well-wishes and outpouring of support.

9/27 Update: After recovering from her surgery, Blue moved into a temporary foster home with a JHS staff member! Blue has been doing wonderfully – Her foster mom reports that Blue follows her wherever she goes, politely sits, and is doing very well with using her puppy pads. In a recent checkup, we learned Blue has gained 10 pounds since coming to JHS! We are so grateful for all the support that has led her to this point.
